PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – United Way of Charlotte County (UWCC) has created an emergency relief fund in anticipation of overwhelming damage from Hurricane Ian. The fund will help United Way of Charlotte County meet short-term storm-related needs and support long-term recovery in the community.
“It is in times of crisis that we truly see the full impact of a community United,” said Executive Director, Angie Matthiessen. “We are grateful for those inside and outside the Charlotte County community who have already stepped up and contributed to this relief fund to give hope and provide assistance to their friends, their family, their neighbors.”
As a critical part of a community’s recovery efforts, United Ways across the state of Florida are ready to help those whose lives have been affected by this natural disaster. Local funds have been set up to help with both the short-term needs and the longer-term rebuilding efforts in Charlotte County.
Funds used for disaster relief assistance will be administered through a process that is thorough and efficient, similar to the Season of Sharing program. United Way of Charlotte County will distribute funds based on need and availability.
“If you are in need of financial assistance due to Hurricane Ian, please be patient as we get this process in place,” said Matthiessen. “We will release details on our website and social media once they are available.”
Charlotte County nonprofits who need volunteer support after the storm’s impact are encouraged to complete UWCC’s online volunteer request form. As soon as it is safe for cleanup efforts to begin, and as agency partners provide details of their needs, volunteer opportunities will be listed on UWCC’s website - unitedwayccfl.org.
